Cycle & Walk the WAVE

12th Annual

Saturday, September 7th, 2019

Gas Works Park

Our Story

In 2000, a group of passionate women were compelled by the statistic that one out of every three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. In 2008, founder Sharon Anderson created Cycle the WAVE, an all-women’s cycling event that celebrated the power of sisterhood and catalyzed a larger movement around education and awareness of relationship and sexual violence. Throughout the last 11 years, Cycle the WAVE has raised over $1,000,000 to support programs that address the issue of domestic and sexual violence.

About the Event

We believe in the transformative power of inclusiveness, and that we can make an even greater impact, together. This year, we invite everyone to participate—women, men, teens and kids. Bring your husbands, wives, partners, boyfriends, girlfriends, kids, coworkers, friends and dogs. Everyone is welcome!

This year’s event features several ways that everyone can join in, show support and have some fun. We are offering a fun ride, a walk, and a community festival.

o    3 Mile Walk: The walk is a 3 mile loop along the Burke Gilman Trail.

o    5 Mile Fun Ride: Due to construction and bridge closure, we’ve had to change our route to a 5-mile fun ride along the water on the scenic Burke Gilman Trail. We encourage you to ride this relaxing route with your family and friends. We’ll have a rest stop halfway sponsored by Nuun hydration and Cliff bars! Click here for the cue sheet.

o    Community Festival: From 10 AM – 2 PM, we’ll celebrate with a beer and wine garden, food trucks, music, kids play area and face painting, and more!

When & Where

10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, September 7th, 2019 at Gas Works Park (2101 N Northlake Way, Seattle, WA)

Legal Hope

The WAVE Foundation’s Legal Hope Program is the first legal program in Washington State focused on offering legal assistance to survivors of sex trafficking and spreading awareness throughout the legal community. Legal Hope’s team of over 100 pro bono attorneys helps remove barriers to housing, employment, and family stability and build hope for a survivor’s future.

Team Up

Team Up Washington uses sports as a platform to end sexual assault and dating abuse by expanding the reach of Coaching Boys Into Men (CBIM) and Athletes as Leaders (AAL). CBIM is the only evidence-based prevention program that trains and motivates high school coaches to teach their young male athletes healthy relationship skills and that violence never equals strength. AAL is the sister program to CBIM for high school athletes on girls’ sports teams.
